            The Boy Scout motto says "Be prepared." And it applies to girls scouts as well as single men and women. You're in the supermarket or the library or the bowling alley. Whatever. And suddenly you spot "The One".

            Are you ready? Let's face it. As unfair as it is, initial physical attraction is usually what sets the ball rolling. You may not be a centerfold, but there's no reason not to look your best. Singles might want to make sure these things are taken care of before hand. After all, you do have to be nice to yourself first before you can expect someone else to.

Skin, facial hair, nails

            For men, trim that facial hair , for women, dye it or pluck it. And women, give yourself two eyebrows instead of one, give yourself a good facial and don't forget a manicure and pedicure. Or better yet, treat yourself to an hour or two at the spa every so often and especially before a big date.

            Great skincare is important (for men, too, by the way). Blemishes, acne and unwanted lines are not difficult to get rid of and can make a world of difference in your attitude and confidence.

Indulge in a good haircut

            A do-it-yourself "do" just won't do. It just can't compare to the cut you get in a high-end salon. A good quality haircut can change your entire look and attitude.

Windows to the soul

            Glasses can be sexy on a man or woman. But if yours make you look like one of those kids that always got picked on in school, you may want to treat yourself a trendy new pair or you may even want to stop hiding your eyes and get contact lenses. There are a variety of contact colors available. Try a different shade than your natural eye color for a fun, new look.

Can we talk?

            Do friends constantly hold their breath when you speak? Or offer you mint-flavored gum? Or take a step back as soon as you open your mouth. If you think you may have a problem, talk to your dental hygienist just to make sure you don't unintentionally knock anyone off their feet.

Clothes and style

            Make a list of what you really want and need for your "new and improved" look, attractive yet inexpensive clothes - from casual to dressy, makeup that makes you feel irresistible, jewelry that says something about you. And don't forget a few pairs of sexy shoes. Work with your personality and complement your best traits.

Inside out

            Personal makeovers extend beyond the physical. When asked what draws them to certain women, many men say confidence, someone who's not too flashy, but carries herself well. Personality is important too; a good personality can make an average woman more beautiful or a beautiful woman look even better.

            Having said all of the above, remember that you need not be obsessed about your looks. Don't be a slave to what others think of you. Looking good for yourself is more important.
